Signature Trail in South Tyrol
A captivating history lesson on wheels: During the thrilling ride along the border between Austria and Italy, the UNESCO World Heritage Site, 3 Zinnen Dolomites, is always in view. The Marchkinkele Trail, a single trail high above Toblach, is a technical challenge designed for skilled bikers, especially those with an interest in history.
Signature Trail in South Tyrol
The Marchkinkele Trail leads across historic paths. With the Three Peaks always in sight, the trail leads downhill to Toblach naturally and challenging in terms of technique.
The ascent leads via an old military road from WW I. The summit is along the border between South Tyrol in Italy and East Tyrol in Austria. In addition, there are many stoamandl (little stone men) as reference to the first and original Stoneman of Roland Stauder. The perfect ingredients for a bike adventure with pleasure guaranteed.
There are no less than three versions of the Marchkinkele Trail. All of them leading downhill to the Sylvesteralm naturally, challenging in terms of technique and with an incredible Dolomites view. The choice is yours or you simply have to pedal uphill again.
WORTH KNOWING
During the First World War, Austrians and Italians engaged in combat at Monte Piana (2,324 m). The hiking trail traverses the former frontline area, where a piece of Austrian-Italian history can be explored in the open-air museum.
INSIDER TIP
Dolomiti Superbike, the toughest mountain bike race in the Dolomites. Covering a distance of 120 km with 3,800 meters of elevation gain, or the shorter version with 60 km and 1,700 meters of elevation gain, the Dolomites offer excellent views and a challenging experience.
